چکیده

This paper compares two possible scenarios for mobile Internet surfing according to the Personalised Access to Local Information and services for tOurists (PALIO) Project (IST-1999-20656). In particular, we consider WAP phones with Short Message Service (SMS) and Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS). Suitable round robin scheduling schemes are analyzed for downlink transmissions. Part of this work has been also contributed to the COST 273 Project.

ارزیابی سیاست‌های زمان‌بندی در نسل چهارم شبکه‌های سلولی (LTE)

New generation of wireless networks, LTE and WiMAX, supports many services which consume a lot of resources (such as VOIP, Video Conference, Digital Video, Multimedia streams and online Multi-player Games). Supporting multi-media services in wireless communication systems provide new resource allocation challenges. Because of high loads in downlink, efficient resource allocation is vital in dow...

Priority-Based Scheduling Algorithm for Downlink Traffics in IEEE 802.16 Networks

The IEEE 802.16 standard is proposed to provide a wide-range broadband wireless service, but it leaves the implementation of the wireless resource scheduler as an open issue. We thus propose a priority-based scheduling algorithm to arrange resources for downlink traffics in an IEEE 802.16 broadband wireless network. The idea is to differentiate the mobile subscriber stations with good channel c...

Security in 2.5G Mobile Systems

The global system for mobile communications, (GSM) is the most popular standard that implements second generation (2G) cellular systems. 2G systems combined with general packet radio services (GPRS) (3GPP TS 03.6, 2002) are often described as 2.5G, that is, a technology between the 2G and third generation (3G) of mobile systems. GPRS is a service that provides packet radio access for GSM users....

Scheduling Algorithms for Packet-Oriented MAC Protocols in Wireless Multimedia Systems

Future generation wireless multimedia communications will require efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols able to guarantee suitable Quality of Service (QoS) levels for different traffic classes while achieving a high utilization of radio resources. This paper proposes a new scheduling technique to be adopted at the MAC level in wireless access systems, named Dynamic Scheduling-Time Div...

A Differentiated Pricing Framework for Improving the Performance of the Elastic Traffics in Data Networks

Rate allocation has become a demanding task in data networks as diversity in users and traffics proliferate. Most commonly used algorithm in end hosts is TCP. This is a loss based scheme therefore it exhibits oscillatory behavior which reduces network performance. Moreover, since the price for all sessions is based on the aggregate throughput, losses that are caused by TCP affect other sessions...
